The James B. McMillan Building is home to the University of Alabama Press and also houses the National Alumni Association's Crimson Calling Center.
The University of Alabama Press is the University’s primary scholarly publishing arm including acquisitions, editorial, production, and marketing. Publishing projects are selected that support, extend, and preserve academic research. The press also publishes books that foster an understanding of the history and culture of the state and region.
The current building is the second structure to be named the McMillan Building. The first was built in 1939 and used to be the Fort Brandon Armory. (Which played host to a number of bands including the Allman Brothers.) The University gained control over that building in 1980, but it was demolished to make way for a new fire station, and the University Press moved into the current McMillan Building.
Information collected from The University of Alabama : a guide to the campus by Robert Oliver Mellown (Tuscaloosa : University of Alabama Press, c1988), and The University of Alabama, a pictorial history by Suzanne Rau Wolfe (University : University of Alabama Press, c1983).
