Crimson Promenade

Crimson Promenade

The Crimson Promenade, created in 2001, celebrates The University of Alabama’s historic leadership role and recognizes service to the University by our alumni, students, faculty, staff and friends. Proceeds beyond construction costs fund programs that support leadership and career development among students.

Constructed of commemorative brick pavers, using donor funds, it is a physical link between the Quad and the Student Services Plaza. Several interesting bricks include sayings, an advertisement, as well as a marriage proposal- and its answer!

The iron gates at the end of the walkway, created in honor of UA’s 175 anniversary, are re-creations of the original campus gates that were destroyed in the Civil War. On the other side of the promenade is the SGA arbor. In 1996, the SGA donated the initial funds to launch the Crimson Promenade Campaign and the Arbor pays tribute to the legacy of student government in the past, present, and future.
